Good afternoon, Redwood City!
Michelle here. I hope everyone had a happy holiday and was able to get some much needed rest!
Transit District
The city is poised to approve the creation of the Transit Center, which will essentially allow up to 1,100 new homes at all income levels, cap office space use and make sidewalk and other changes to Hamilton and Franklin streets. The city council will meet tonight to discuss the project. For context on this project, check out our previous coverage of the planning commission's unanimous vote.
Gun Shop Moratorium
Redwood City is continuing its research into zoning regulations across the County to decide whether the city should create its own ordinance on gun retail uses. This time the city thinks it could take up to 10 months to complete the research meaning that the temporary ban would end on Oct. 23, 2023. No information yet on whether the Second Amendment Foundation — the gun rights organization that recently sent a letter to the city advising it to remove the temporary ban or face litigation–is planning to take action.
Have a great afternoon. We have a lot of news for you!
