Good afternoon, Redwood City!
A new council
It’s official! Two weeks after Election Day, the votes have been counted, and Redwood City has three new council members.
The nail-biting district 2 race came to an end just yesterday when Chris Sturken, who trailed Margaret Becker on Election Night, claimed victory with 40.8% of the vote. (The third candidate, Alison Madden, received about half as many votes as the other two.)
Kaia Eakin, a former lawyer and member of the city’s Historic Resources Advisory Committee, ran unopposed and will represent district 5, which includes the neighborhoods of Redwood Oaks and Palm. And Diane Howard, while a veteran of the council, has been newly elected (over opponent Jerome Madigan) to represent district 6, which includes Woodside Plaza, Roosevelt and parts of the surrounding neighborhoods.
